In a (shocking?!) turn of events Delta has quietly become one of my favorite airline cards to hold since I started doing this back in 2018.

Who Should Get a Delta Amex Card Right Now?
1. 🙋🏽♀️You’re past the basics and ready to DIVERSIFY your points stash.
You’ve built up some Chase and Capital One miles (Go YOU), and the next move is spreading miles across a few programs so you can pounce when something good pops up.
And Delta flash sales are IT right now. These miles are invaluable as of late to have on hand for some deals like these (keep scrolling!) that we’ve seen in the last few months.

So although they AREN’T actively advertised (thank youuu Thrifty Traveler), Delta’s Flash Sales as of late have been insane, and truly some of the best airline point rates I see…and I do this all day everyday.

These are real roundtrip award prices of some SkyMiles flash sales the last few months!! Per person, after the 15% card member discount. 🤯
- New Orleans to Cancun, 10,200 miles + $148.29
- Raleigh to San José, Costa Rica, 13,400 miles + $97.69
- Chicago to Reykjavik, 13,700 miles + $72.23
- Syracuse to Montego Bay, 14,000 miles + $151.42
- Minneapolis to Brisbane, 25,400 miles + $134.93

Australia and back for 34,000 miles was the unicorn SkyMiles deal of the CENTURY, and it’s the whole argument for having a stash sitting ready!! Because these sales move fast and you can’t go build a balance after you’ve already found one.

- The deals live under SkyMiles Award Deals on Delta’s desktop site, not the app
- Make sure to use the flexible date calendar that shows you whole months at once, which is how you spot the lowest rates
- With Delta, roundtrip usually prices better than two one-ways, so pull up both
What Is TakeOff 15 Worth to a Family of Six?
Every Delta Amex card gives you 15% off EVERY award flight, it applies automatically.
You don’t even have to pay the taxes and fees with the Delta card to get it (use whatever card has your best travel protections for that part).
- Minneapolis to Brisbane saves 4,600 miles per person, so a family of six saves 27,600 miles.
- New York to Melbourne saves 6,000 per person, which is 36,000 miles back in your account for a family of six, or three more roundtrips to Cancun.
➡️ Again, if you fly Delta even occasionally this feature of the cards alone is GOLD.

- Main Basic = the most restrictive. You must pay a fee to change or cancel (if booked with miles, Delta charges a fee in miles), you aren’t able to choose a seat, and you board in group 8.
- Main Classic = allows you to cancel for a full refund of miles, allows you to select a seat at any time, the eligibility to purchase upgrades, as well as boarding earlier.
